Work
Well
Early work-and-health support, integrated local partnerships and the next phase of delivery.
Existing delivery and planned expansion are different stages.
The prospectus provides for existing pilot services to continue and for non-pilot areas to design services and begin delivery from November 2026. As at this review, that November milestone is still prospective. Verify the local opening date rather than implying every area already offers the same service.
DWP: National expansion prospectusUnderstand the offer before the job title.
WorkWell connects early employment support with help for health-related barriers. Its emphasis includes people at risk of losing work, returning after sickness absence and those for whom a lower-intensity route into work is appropriate.
DWP: National expansion prospectusIt is a locally designed service, not a single national provider contract. Integrated Care Boards work with local government, Jobcentre Plus and wider partners. The supporting documents should be read alongside the local specification.

Three questions for the local service design
Who is it for?
Which cohorts, employment situations and health-related barriers are prioritised locally? What makes WorkWell a suitable starting point?
DWP: National expansion prospectusWhat can staff deliver?
Distinguish non-clinical work support from treatment or assessment requiring professional qualifications. Agree referral and supervision boundaries.
DWP: National expansion prospectusWhere does support go next?
A gateway needs functioning onward pathways, not simply a directory of organisations. Confirm access and handover responsibilities.
DWP: National expansion prospectusWho is responsible for delivery?
Local partnership
The ICB-led partnership brings together work, health and local services. Delivery arrangements and providers vary; an ICB allocation is not a recruitment award.
DWP: Programme collectionHealth support
The prospectus requires a health-support element but leaves local flexibility. WorkWell does not create priority access to NHS treatment for its participants.
DWP: National expansion prospectusWhat does this mean for the work?
CareerPath's practical interpretation. These prompts are not additional programme rules or promised staffing requirements.
Know what the role actually requires.
Ask what the local role actually owns: coaching, employer liaison, navigation or clinical work. Seek a clear account of supervision and escalation rather than relying on the health label.
Prepare an example of coordinating support while preserving the person's own employment goal. Explain when you referred rather than worked outside your competence.
Explore the roles behind the delivery.
These are relevant career routes, not confirmation of an open vacancy or a fixed staffing model for this programme.

Is WorkWell the same as IPS?
No. WorkWell is an early integrated support offer. IPS is a specific employment-support model; the local system may link the services without making them identical.
DWP: National expansion prospectusNHS England: Model guidanceDoes a WorkWell role require clinical registration?
Only where the actual duties and person specification require it. A non-clinical work coach must not be represented as qualified to diagnose or treat.
DWP: National expansion prospectusChoose training for the role—not just the programme name.
Start with the employer's essential criteria and the relevant Career Guide. Programme induction, model training, occupational competence and professional qualifications serve different purposes. An optional course does not replace an essential requirement.
The Training & courses action uses CareerPath's existing UKCPD referral. Ad / affiliate: commission may be earned. Course availability, fees and recognition must be checked with the provider; no universal accreditation or mandatory course is implied.
