Connect
to Work
The local supported-employment offer, its two delivery approaches and the roles behind it.
Local availability matters more than a national launch headline.
The DWP collection covers England and Wales and provides a local service finder. Greater Manchester has distinct Prevention Demonstrator arrangements. Launch dates, partners and routes into support should be checked for the actual area; a national funding announcement is not evidence that every local service is accepting referrals.
DWP: Programme collectionUnderstand the offer before the job title.
Connect to Work supports disabled people, people with health conditions and specified groups facing complex barriers to employment. It can help eligible people move into work or retain employment at risk. Receiving benefits is not a universal entry condition.
DWP: Grant guidanceThe programme is organised locally around supported employment. England's guidance describes IPS and the Supported Employment Quality Framework within a coherent offer. They are not interchangeable labels, and Wales has its own grant guidance.

IPS route
Model-specific employment support, integration and fidelity expectations apply. A specialist needs the right supervision and induction.
DWP: Grant guidanceSEQF approach
The supported-employment quality framework guides practice and assurance. It is not a separate national benefits programme.
BASE: Framework-owner guidanceDWP: Grant guidanceIn-work support
Retention support has its own purpose. Do not require an in-work participant to follow an unnecessary job-search pathway.
DWP: Grant guidanceWho is responsible for delivery?
Accountable body
The local accountable body coordinates funding and delivery. Services may be delivered in-house, commissioned or through a mix of arrangements.
DWP: Grant guidanceProvider and partners
Check the actual provider award, referral network and professional-team relationships locally. No national shortlist establishes who delivers every area.
DWP: Programme collectionWhat does this mean for the work?
CareerPath's practical interpretation. These prompts are not additional programme rules or promised staffing requirements.
Know what the role actually requires.
Ask which approach you will deliver, how employer-development time is protected and how supervision checks practice. A generic Employment Specialist title does not answer those questions.
Demonstrate how you kept a person's preferences central while making practical progress with employers and support partners.
Explore the roles behind the delivery.
These are relevant career routes, not confirmation of an open vacancy or a fixed staffing model for this programme.

Does every employment specialist deliver IPS?
No. Check the commissioned approach and job description. Job title alone does not establish the model or the required professional preparation.
DWP: Grant guidanceCan someone join alongside any other employment programme?
Do not assume so. The guidance contains restrictions intended to prevent overlapping intensive provision; suitability and concurrent support must be checked.
DWP: Grant guidanceChoose training for the role—not just the programme name.
Start with the employer's essential criteria and the relevant Career Guide. Programme induction, model training, occupational competence and professional qualifications serve different purposes. An optional course does not replace an essential requirement.
The Training & courses action uses CareerPath's existing UKCPD referral. Ad / affiliate: commission may be earned. Course availability, fees and recognition must be checked with the provider; no universal accreditation or mandatory course is implied.
